Snapchat is preparing a significant update with a new interface. It is beginning to show through a few shared captures online.
Snapchat is in a difficult situation. In spite of its community, the company is struggling to break even, and competition has intensified. Worse still, Facebook did not hesitate to pick up on its functions and take over some of its peculiarities.
Evan Spiegel is well aware of the stakes involved and recently announced his intention to deploy a new version of his application at the end of the year.
Snapchat is going to get a new skin.
The latter will benefit from an entirely new interface that is both simpler and – above all – more intuitive. The idea is, of course, to make the tool accessible to the most significant world to revive growth and gain new market share.
Evan Spiegel returned to this new design during a panel discussion by presenting several visuals of this new interface.
The new Snapchat will, therefore, be entirely different from the old one and will require a separation between social content and media to simplify the use of the solution. Evan Spiegel is aware of taking a risk, but he thinks that this separation of materials will allow him to monetize the solution better.
On the one hand, the solution will always allow us to interact with our contacts and groups. On the other hand, it will present the different contents shared by the platform’s users, content displayed on an infinite grid composed of tiles, all with horizontal navigation.
In order not to lose the most frequent users, the application will always open on the camera. Snapchat will, therefore, continue to place creation at the heart of its priorities, and this is apparently a good thing, as it has also contributed to its success.
A more accessible interface to reconnect with success
To access the activity of your friends, the user will just need to scan the left panel. This page will list all the new content shared by the contacts, and it will, of course, be enough to tap on the element of its choice to display the text, image or video associated.
The right panel will show content shared by publishers, media, and the community. The Discover tab will be present, as well as for the Snap Map and the Collective Stories.
The content of this page will vary according to each user, and the tool will rely on the user’s personal preferences to bring up the most relevant elements. On the other hand, all indexed content will be systematically checked by the company’s employees before being published.
This tab will evolve in the coming months to highlight the content created by influencers and creators. The latter should, therefore, gain in visibility.
As a reminder, the new version of Snapchat will start rolling out at the beginning of December, but not everyone will be able to enjoy it at the same time. The company has opted for a progressive deployment.
